(In reply to Hagar's question)
ABSTRACTION is a matter of perspective: If one repeats CUCUMBERCUCUMBERCUCUMBERCUCUMBER many times, the CUCUMBER looses its semantic properties of a green vegetable and becomes a sound. If one repeats a motif of a tree multiple times, a tree becomes an element of a pattern; it looses its figurative properties of a representation and becomes a shape. If one repeats exactly the same bodily movement, a handshake, multiple times, it looses its functional properties, it becomes a dance. |
